functional movement group training
Tiffany specializes in barefoot functional mobility training. These committed group training sessions blend the best of group fitness with personal training to create a class that is personalized but not isolated, where we get fit together around our individual goals. Depending on the goals of the group, these sessions can emphasize:
Motor control, the often-overlooked neurological component of strength and mobility training that enhances control over individual joint actions, which can both heal existing pain and enhance resilience to injury
Coordination and grace, the ability for the body to work efficiently as an integrated unit, moving smoothly and easefully
Balance and stability, including building a deep, functional core to support the spine
Alignment, including returning the body to postural neutral and the ability to safely move away from it
Corrective movement training, including refining basic exercises to work all involved muscles as effectively as possible without undue joint pressure
Diaphragmatic breathing, the most basic human movement pattern and our most fundamental core support system—and the master control for a healthy, well-toned nervous system
Body awareness and proprioception, supports healing and injury prevention, both physical and emotional
Mind-body integration, which heals trauma and anxiety, and is essential in overcoming disordered eating and other addictions
Toe and foot yoga, building the foundation from the ground up, with huge impacts to balance, pelvic floor and core stability, and quality form when moving
Functional Movement Group Sessions run in six week sessions with one week off in between. Tiffany offers inexpensive monthly memberships for those who commit to attend regularly, or you may pay by the session or half session. Drop-ins are discouraged (it’s hard to see results if you attend inconsistently), but are available at $25/session.
Our current groups meet at the Akasha Collective on:
Wednesdays and Fridays 11am—this group is for participants age 65+ and those working with or recovering from substantial illness, injury, or other limitation.
Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30pm—this group focuses on those in mid-life who seek overall strength and wish to minimize the damage done by long periods of sitting or standing at work.
